Our approach

About: Why We Go Looking

We would rather help you find one useful control in a device you already own than persuade you to replace it out of boredom.

Puff Curious Button is an independent editorial guide to overlooked everyday technology. We cover phone functions, browser techniques, desktop settings and unusual websites. Our reader is curious, busy and entirely entitled not to know where a manufacturer moved a menu this time.

“Hidden” is shorthand for easy to miss. It does not mean secret access, an exploit or a feature the manufacturer does not want you to use. Some of the best discoveries are thoroughly documented and simply absent from everyday conversation.

A discovery needs more than a clever headline

We favor features supported by original documentation. Guides link to relevant manufacturer help or the official tool when possible. A documented capability is not the same as a hands-on test of every device, release and account combination; we do not claim that breadth of testing.

  1. Name the useful change. Explain what the feature does before asking the reader to touch a setting.
  2. State the prerequisites. Identify platforms, obvious version limits, permissions and account considerations.
  3. Use a small test. Prefer sample documents, disposable tabs and invented text over important data.
  4. Explain the exit. Show how to reverse a setting and distinguish that from deleting copies or undoing an upload.

Experiments are labeled as experiments. A browser audio toy is not a hearing test; a historical web capture is not proof that every statement on the page was true. When a claim depends on unknown hardware or changing service behavior, the limitation belongs beside the claim, not in tiny print at the bottom.

Illustrative interface reconstructions are labeled. Supporting device photographs provide context rather than evidence that the photographed device ran a particular test.

Useful is better than breathless

This site is not affiliated with Apple, Google, Microsoft, Mozilla, GCHQ, the Internet Archive or the other organizations discussed. Product and service names belong to their respective owners. Linking to a source is not an endorsement of every product, policy or claim on that source.

These pages contain no affiliate purchase links, paid rankings or sponsored placements. External tools operate under their own terms and may change their features or pricing. We avoid presenting the word “free” as a permanent promise about someone else’s service.

Menus move. Corrections matter.

If instructions no longer match your device, send the page address, model, operating-system version and the exact point where the recipe diverges. A concise description is usually more useful than a screenshot containing private notifications.

We welcome discoveries with reproducible steps, including the unglamorous part: what did not work, which permission appeared and how you reversed the change. Suggestions are reviewed as possible editorial material, not guaranteed publication or individual technical support.
